Summer in Lyngen – Long Days, Big Mountains and Endless Possibilities

Our summer season at Magic Mountain Lodge starts on June 18 and runs until mid-September. While many people know Lyngen for its legendary ski touring, summer is when the mountains, fjords and valleys reveal a completely different side of themselves.
From the midnight sun in June and July to colourful autumn days and the first Northern Lights in September, every part of the season has its own charm.

The Season of Endless Days

One of the first things visitors notice is the light. In June and July, the sun never sets. There is no rush to get back before dark, no need to check the time and no reason to end a great day early.
Go for an evening hike at 10 pm, enjoy a paddle on the fjord after dinner or simply sit on the terrace and watch the light change over the mountains. The midnight sun has a way of making even ordinary moments feel special.

Mountain Biking Right from the Lodge

Lyngen has become one of Northern Norway’s most exciting mountain bike destinations. A growing network of trails offers everything from easy rides through the birch forests to technical singletrack with stunning fjord views.
At the lodge you’ll find secure bike storage, a workshop for repairs and plenty of local advice if you’re looking for the best trails. Many rides start right outside the door, so once you’re here, you can leave the car parked and simply go riding.

Hiking for Everyone

Not every hike in Lyngen has to be a summit mission.
Some days are perfect for exploring a quiet valley, visiting a mountain cabin or enjoying a picnic by a lake. Other days might take you to one of the many peaks overlooking the fjords and the Lyngen Alps.
The beauty of the area is the variety. Whether you’re looking for a gentle family walk, a half-day hike or a full mountain adventure, you’ll find plenty of options within a short distance of the lodge.

Berries, Mushrooms and Family Adventures

By late summer, the forests and mountains are full of berries. Blueberries, crowberries and lingonberries grow almost everywhere, turning even a simple walk into a treasure hunt for children.
Many of the easier trails are perfect for families, and there is plenty of space to explore, play and discover nature at your own pace. No screens required. If you know where to look, September also brings mushrooms, making autumn hikes even more rewarding.

Fishing and Paddling on the Fjord

The fjord is never far away in Lyngen.

Spend an evening fishing from the shore, explore nearby lakes for trout and Arctic char or head out onto the water by canoe. On calm days the mountains are reflected in the fjord like a mirror, creating some of the most beautiful scenery you’ll find anywhere in Northern Norway.

When Autumn Arrives

As the season moves into late August and September, the days slowly become shorter. The midnight sun is gone, but many visitors would argue that this is when Lyngen is at its most beautiful. The birch forests turn bright yellow and orange, the air becomes crisp and clear, and the first Northern Lights start appearing in the night sky.
One evening you might be watching the sunset colours over the fjord, and a few hours later find yourself standing outside the lodge looking up at green ribbons of light dancing above the mountains.

More Than Just a Place to Stay

Summer in Lyngen is not about ticking activities off a list. It is about spending long days outdoors, moving at a slower pace and enjoying everything this unique corner of Northern Norway has to offer.
Whether you come for hiking, biking, fishing, paddling or simply to experience life under the midnight sun, we would love to welcome you to Magic Mountain Lodge this summer.
